ABOUT EDVIGE SPIZZIRRI

Journalism student with a

focus on media and storytelling.

I’m a senior at Michigan State University studying journalism with a concentration in media relations, along with minors in business and media photography. I came into college knowing I liked storytelling, but I didn’t really know what that meant for me yet or what direction I wanted to take it in.

At first, I was drawn to writing. I worked with VIM Magazine, where I created blog content and later became assistant director of the blog team. That experience helped me understand tone, audience, and structure, but it also made me realize I cared just as much about how something looks and feels as what it says. I started paying more attention to design, layout, and how content comes together as a whole.

Over time, that interest shifted me toward social media and digital content. I became really interested in how stories actually reach people, especially in such a fast-paced environment. I started thinking more about what makes someone stop scrolling and how visuals and messaging work together to hold attention.

That led me to The State News, where I worked as a social media content creator and later became the Social Media Editor/Coordinator. That role has been one of the most defining parts of my college experience. It’s fast-paced and collaborative, and it’s pushed me to think quickly and adapt. I’ve worked on refining our visual style, improving post formatting, and using analytics to understand what performs best. Over the past year, that approach helped grow our Instagram to over 21,600 followers.

Through all of this, I’ve realized I enjoy every part of the process, from ideation to execution. I like figuring out what works, what doesn’t, and why, and creating content that feels intentional and impactful.
